Air Force Academy 10-15-11

On Saturday we took the kids to the United States Air Force Academy.

The kids got a souvenir football.

This is the Cadet Chapel. It was very pretty.

What's interesting about this chapel is there are four different areas of worship. This is the main chapel for Protestants. This chapel was the largest of the four.

This is the chapel for Catholics. The chapels got progressively smaller.

This is the chapel for Buddhists. The Buddhist and Jewish chapels got progressively smaller. I can't post the picture of the Jewish chapel because for some reason the picture isn't in the proper direction.

The kids were so amazed by the view that they couldn't stop looking at it.

For lunch we stumbled upon a really good place called Schlotzsky's Deli. Katie needed to use the bathroom so we were actually going to pull into a McDonald's because it was close but then we saw this place and decided to try it. I'm glad we did. This is their original hot sauce.

I got the angus roast beef & cheese. These buns are amazing! I think that's what made this place so good.

David got the fiesta chicken.

This is the kids turkey and cheese.

Justin absolutely loves chips.

And so does his sister!

I thought the bathroom signs in this place was funny.

After lunch we took the kids for a train ride on Pike's Peak Cog Railway.

Apparently Katharine Lee Bates, the author of America the Beautiful, first wrote this poem while visiting Colorado Springs. This is a monument with the lyrics of the poem on it.

I didn't know this but apparently it is difficult to bake at high altitudes. These are special donuts baked at the summit of Pike's Peak.

The kids were so tired out that they fell asleep on the way down.

For our last dinner in Colorado we went back to Biker Jim's Restaurant.

David got the off the street burger with fries. Which was very good but also very big.

This is the first hot dog the kids ever had and they actually loved it.

I got the duck cilantro dog with fried green tomatoes. I think the southwest buffalo dog was the best. I really wanted the charred tahini cauliflower one last time but when we got there there was a sign saying they were out of it for the night. Oh wells.
